Logan City Council’s Draft Plan Guides Future Growth Strategy

Logan City Council has unveiled its new draft plan aimed at steering the future growth of Logan, Queensland. The plan has received approval from the Queensland Government to enter the phase of public consultation, set to kick off in September 2025. The draft Logan Plan is poised to shape the city’s development trajectory, offering a blueprint for growth and progress.

The forthcoming 9-week public consultation period for the draft plan is designed to engage the community extensively. Residents will have various avenues to interact with the council’s team, including online platforms, phone calls, emails, and in-person sessions. The initiative aims to elucidate how the plan will impact properties and future development in Logan, a city witnessing rapid expansion.

Following the submission of the draft plan to the Queensland Government in September 2023, a State Interest Review was conducted as mandated by the Planning Act 2016. The review process was wrapped up in June 2025 after negotiations and adjustments were made to the initial draft. The revised draft, approved by the Minister in June 2025, is now open for public scrutiny and feedback to shape the future growth of Logan.

The Logan Plan is a response to the projected rapid growth of Logan over the next 15 years, positioning it as one of the fastest-growing regions in South East Queensland. The plan is pivotal in managing this growth by dictating construction parameters, facilitating job creation, ensuring housing diversity, and orchestrating infrastructure development to sustain the city’s evolution.

Logan’s current planning scheme, in effect since May 2015, is due for revision to accommodate the changing landscape of the city and region. The Logan Plan will address these transformations and emerging trends, focusing on managing growth, enhancing housing options, fostering job opportunities, and fortifying environmental conservation efforts.

The plan will also prioritize sustainable development, safety measures, natural disaster resilience, and the preservation of environmental assets such as green spaces, water bodies, and wildlife habitats. By aligning with state policies and considering factors like climate change impact, the Logan Plan aims to strike a balance between progress and preservation.

As Logan gears up for public consultation on the draft plan, residents are encouraged to participate actively in shaping the city’s future. The engagement process, expected to commence later in 2025, will provide a platform for community feedback and suggestions to refine the Logan Plan further.

With a focus on community involvement and responsive planning, the Logan Plan sets out to chart a sustainable and prosperous course for Logan’s development in the years to come. As stakeholders gear up for the consultation phase, the Logan City Council remains committed to fostering a collaborative approach to urban planning and growth management.
